Defending the Delaware - Independence Seaport Museum
*The event has already taken place on this date: Mon, 05/13/2024
Walking through the museum’s new introductory exhibition, have you wondered exactly how the chevaux de frise was installed in the Delaware River during the Revolutionary War? Or how successful it was as a defense mechanism? Now’s your chance to learn more as we welcome Military Historian Alex Arnold to the Independence Seaport Museum. Join us as Alex discusses how, through an interconnected system of hastily built fortifications, a small brown water fleet of row gallies, and sunken river obstacles, a handful of dogged American soldiers and sailors held off the might of the British Navy and denied General Howe the satisfaction of an easy victory in capturing the city of Philadelphia.
