Praised by the New York Times as a company of “warm, generous dancers presenting a vibrant tour of Mexican traditions with eye-popping costumes,” the acclaimed folkloric dance ensemble presents the Philadelphia premiere of a full-length production of Native Mexico honoring Native American dance traditions still alive in Mexico.

Native Mexico is a unique interactive performance by Calpulli Mexican Dance Company honoring those that came before us. Join us as we pay tribute to the prehispanic civilizations who continue to inspire us today: the Mexika, Purepecha, Zapotec, and Totonaca, and those that came before them, the Maya, Olmec, and Tolteca peoples. Featuring vibrant dance, eye-catching garments and melodious instruments originated by prehispanic civilizations, audiences will experience beautiful rituals to honor the earth, the spirit and the community. Bridging the past and present, this performance serves as a reminder of traditions that remain gloriously alive within movement and rhythm.

Part of VOCES: EAC’s VOCES series spotlights a different facet of Latin American culture and traditions each season. This year’s VOCES Series will feature indigenous cultural traditions from Latin America and the Caribbean. VOCES is made possible this season through the generous support of William Penn Foundation.

Food and Beverages are available for sale in the Teatro lobby courtesy of EAC’s official concession partner Helados Chupi Chupi.

Presented in partnership with the Mexican Consulate of Philadelphia
